Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Softer lines, natural expression

Anti-wrinkle injections are one of the most requested non-surgical treatments in the UK, and also one of the easiest to get wrong when they are rushed. At Evolve Aesthetics in Manchester, every course begins with a face-to-face consultation with a doctor, because the aim is not a frozen look. The aim is to soften the lines that bother you while leaving you able to frown, raise your eyebrows and smile like yourself.

The treatment works by relaxing the small facial muscles that repeatedly fold the skin and, over time, etch expression lines into it. Because it is a prescription-only medicine, it can only be prescribed after an individual assessment. That is why we never offer it as a walk-in or pre-packaged service: your muscle strength, brow position and facial symmetry are all different, and your plan should reflect that.

Why choose it

What anti-wrinkle injections can help with

Frown lines

Vertical lines between the brows, often called the "11s", can make a face look tired or cross even when you feel fine.

Forehead lines

Horizontal lines that deepen as you raise your eyebrows can be softened with a carefully balanced approach to avoid a heavy brow.

Crow's feet

Lines fanning out from the outer corners of the eyes can be smoothed while keeping the eyes expressive.

Preventative care

Starting with small, well-judged doses earlier can discourage deeper lines from setting in, though it is never a requirement.

Which areas can be treated

The most commonly treated areas are the glabella (between the eyebrows), the forehead and the outer corners of the eyes. These three are often planned together, because the muscles in the upper face work as a team. Relaxing the frown muscles without considering the forehead, for example, can cause the brows to sit lower than you would like.

Depending on your anatomy and goals, your doctor may also discuss other areas, such as the lower face or neck bands. We will always explain whether an area is a good candidate, what a realistic improvement looks like and when it may be better to consider a different approach, such as skin-quality treatments, instead.

  • Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Forehead lines
  • Crow's feet around the eyes
  • Selected areas of the lower face, where clinically appropriate

How treatment is planned and carried out

Your consultation covers your medical history, current medication, previous treatments and what you would like to change. You are asked to frown, smile and raise your eyebrows so that the doctor can see how your muscles move. Photographs may be taken so that progress can be compared fairly at review.

During treatment, very fine needles are used to place small amounts of the medicine into specific muscles. Most people describe tiny pinches rather than significant pain, and the whole appointment is usually short. Small raised marks can appear at the injection points and typically settle within a few hours. Mild bruising is possible, as with any injection.

You will not see the full effect immediately. The medicine takes several days to start working and usually reaches its full effect at around two weeks, which is why we recommend assessing the result at that point rather than adjusting too early.

Aftercare and what to avoid

Good aftercare helps the medicine stay where it was placed and reduces the chance of bruising. Your clinician will give you written guidance, but the general principles are consistent across most clinics.

Alcohol and some supplements, such as high-dose fish oil or vitamin E, can increase bruising for some people, so it can help to avoid them before your appointment if your doctor agrees.

  • Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for the rest of the day
  • Stay upright for around four hours and avoid lying flat
  • Skip intense exercise, saunas and very hot showers for 24 hours
  • Avoid facials or facial massage for a short period, as advised
  • Contact us if anything feels wrong or you notice asymmetry that concerns you

Safety, suitability and honest expectations

Anti-wrinkle injections are not suitable for everyone. They are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and certain neuromuscular conditions or medications may rule treatment out. Your doctor will go through these carefully before anything is prescribed or administered.

Side effects are usually mild and temporary, and can include headache, bruising, tenderness and, less commonly, a heavy-feeling brow or eyelid droop. A drooping eyelid is uncommon, can be uncomfortable, and usually improves over several weeks as the effect wears off. Knowing how to reduce that risk is a large part of why medical training and anatomical knowledge matter. Results vary from person to person, and we do not guarantee a specific outcome.

FAQ

Anti-Wrinkle Injections FAQs

Results commonly last around three to four months, although this varies with your muscle strength, metabolism and the areas treated. Over time, some people find results last a little longer with regular treatment.

That is not our aim. We plan conservative, balanced doses so you keep natural movement. If you prefer a stronger effect, we can discuss that openly and adjust at your review.

Most people feel brief pinching or stinging. The needles are very fine and the treatment is quick. If you are nervous, tell your clinician and they will talk you through each step.

You may notice a change after three to five days, with the full effect usually visible by around two weeks. This is the best time to judge the result.

No. Anti-wrinkle injections are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please tell us at your consultation if you are trying to conceive.

Treatment starts from £180. The final price depends on the areas treated and the amount needed, and we confirm this at your consultation before anything is done.

It is best for lines caused by repeated muscle movement. For lines that are visible at rest, loss of volume or poor skin quality, your doctor may suggest a different or additional treatment.
