Lip Augmentation

Doctor-led lip augmentation in Manchester, designed around your own shape and proportions.

Lip Augmentation

Balanced lips that still look like yours

Lip augmentation is about proportion as much as volume. A lip that is simply bigger rarely looks better; a lip that is balanced with your nose, chin and smile usually does. At Evolve Aesthetics in Manchester, our doctors plan lip treatment around your natural shape, the relationship between your upper and lower lip and the way you move when you speak and smile.

Most lip augmentation uses hyaluronic acid, a substance the body already produces and which attracts water. Placed carefully, it can add gentle volume, define the border, support the cupid's bow or hydrate lips that look flat and dry. It is also reversible, which is one of the reasons many people feel more comfortable starting with it.

Why choose it

What lip augmentation can achieve

Subtle volume

Small, staged amounts can add softness and fullness without changing the character of your face.

Better definition

The lip border and cupid's bow can be refined to give a cleaner, more defined outline.

Improved symmetry

Many people have one side fuller than the other. Careful placement can reduce visible differences.

Hydrated finish

Hyaluronic acid draws in water, which can leave lips looking smoother and healthier.

How we plan your lip shape

Your consultation starts with a conversation, not a syringe. We look at your lips at rest, smiling and speaking. We discuss which celebrities or photos you like, and then we explain which elements are realistic for your anatomy. A very thin upper lip, for instance, may support only modest change in one session, while a person with naturally fuller lips may want only definition.

A useful guideline many clinicians work to is that the lower lip is slightly fuller than the upper. We treat that as a starting point, not a rule. We also consider your lip-to-chin balance, the width of your smile and any asymmetry. Photographs are taken so we can compare before and after fairly.

What happens during treatment

Your lips are cleansed and a numbing cream is applied. Many fillers also contain local anaesthetic, which makes the procedure more comfortable. Using fine needles or a cannula, the doctor places small amounts of filler in specific areas, checking the effect and your symmetry as treatment progresses.

You may feel pressure and mild stinging. Swelling is common straight afterwards, and lips can look larger than the final result for several days. Tenderness, small lumps that can be felt rather than seen and occasional bruising are also usual and generally settle. The final result is usually best judged at around two weeks. If a small adjustment is needed, a review appointment allows it to be done thoughtfully rather than rushed.

Aftercare for the best result

Lips are delicate tissue and the first 24 to 48 hours matter. Our clinicians will provide written aftercare, which usually includes the following guidance.

Hydration helps filler look its best, so drink water and use a gentle lip balm. If you have a history of cold sores, please tell us before treatment, as injections can occasionally trigger an outbreak and a preventative approach may be recommended.

  • Avoid pressing or massaging the lips unless you have been told to
  • Skip intense exercise, heat, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours
  • Avoid lipstick or lip products for a few hours, as advised
  • Sleep with your head slightly raised for the first night
  • Be gentle with dental treatment for around two weeks, where possible

Risks, safety and when to call us

Lip filler is a medical treatment and should be treated as one. Common effects such as swelling, bruising and tenderness are temporary. Less common concerns include lumps, asymmetry and, rarely, a vascular complication where filler affects blood flow. Signs include unusual or increasing pain, blanching or a dusky, mottled look to the skin, and they need urgent attention.

This is one of the main reasons we use a doctor-led approach and why we offer ultrasound-guided assessment where it is appropriate. If you ever feel concerned after treatment, contact the clinic straight away. If we cannot be reached and you have severe symptoms, seek urgent medical care. We also provide advice if you are unhappy with filler placed elsewhere, including whether dissolving is appropriate.
