Scar Treatment Exosomes

Doctor-led exosome scar treatment in Manchester, supporting skin repair and scar quality.

Scar Treatment Exosomes

A newer regenerative option for scarring

Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by cells that carry proteins, lipids and other signalling molecules, which help cells communicate with one another. In aesthetic medicine, exosome-based products are used with the aim of supporting skin repair and renewal, and they have attracted interest as a possible way to improve scars, texture and skin quality, often alongside microneedling or other procedures.

At Evolve Aesthetics in Manchester, exosome treatments joined our menu in 2025, alongside polynucleotide therapy, ultrasound-guided procedures and advanced scar management. Because this is a newer field, we think it is especially important that you hear a balanced account of what is known, what is not yet proven and what outcomes are realistic for you.

Why choose it

What exosome therapy is intended to do

Support skin repair

Exosomes carry signals thought to encourage the skin's natural healing and renewal processes.

Improve scar quality

They are used to support smoother, more even-looking scars, particularly alongside other scar treatments.

Complement other procedures

They are often applied after microneedling, where the skin is more receptive to topical products.

Helpful for sensitive recovery

Many people choose them as part of a plan to support healing after resurfacing treatments.

An honest look at the evidence

Exosome research is promising but still developing. Laboratory and early clinical studies suggest that these vesicles can influence inflammation and tissue repair, but large, high-quality human trials in aesthetic use are limited, and products vary in source, preparation and quality. Regulation of exosome products also differs between countries, so it matters to know what you are being offered.

For this reason, we do not promise results, and we encourage you to see exosomes as a supportive treatment rather than a stand-alone cure for scarring. Your doctor will explain the product used, the evidence behind it and how it fits within a broader plan. If a better-established option such as laser, steroid injections, microneedling or surgical revision would suit your scar more effectively, we will recommend it.

What happens during treatment

Following consultation, your skin is cleansed and numbing cream is applied for comfort. In many cases, treatment is combined with microneedling, so the exosome product can be applied to the skin while tiny channels are open. Your doctor controls needle depth according to your scar and skin type. In other cases, products may be applied topically or used with another suitable method.

During treatment you may feel scratching or warmth. Afterwards, the skin is typically pink and a little swollen, similar to mild sunburn, and may feel tight. Redness commonly settles within a day or two, depending on the method used. We recommend avoiding heavy makeup initially and following the aftercare closely. Treatment is usually repeated as a course, with the interval chosen by your doctor.

Aftercare and supporting your results

Recovery is usually gentle, but careful aftercare helps your skin make the most of treatment.

Scars can continue to mature for a year or more, so patience is part of the process. Photographs taken at the start and throughout your course help you and your doctor judge progress objectively.

  • Use only gentle, fragrance-free cleansers and moisturisers for several days
  • Apply daily broad-spectrum sunscreen and avoid direct sun
  • Avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids and strong actives until advised
  • Avoid saunas, heavy exercise and swimming for 24 to 48 hours
  • Do not pick at flaking skin or scabs

Safety, suitability and who should avoid it

Side effects can include redness, swelling, tenderness, itching and temporary sensitivity, and as with any treatment involving the skin, there is a risk of infection or allergic reaction. Treatment may not be suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have active infection, inflammation or open wounds in the area or have certain medical conditions. Please tell us about allergies, medication and any history of keloid scarring.

Exosomes are generally not appropriate for newly healing wounds, so timing matters. Your doctor will advise when your scar is ready for treatment. Because results vary and evidence is still emerging, we recommend asking questions at consultation, including about the product used, and making a decision only when you feel fully informed.
