Polynucleotide PDRN Therapy

Doctor-led polynucleotide (PDRN) therapy in Manchester, supporting skin repair and quality.

Polynucleotide (PDRN) Therapy

A regenerative approach to skin quality

Polynucleotides are chains of DNA fragments that, in aesthetic medicine, are injected into the skin to support its natural repair and renewal. The most commonly used source is highly purified DNA derived from salmon, and the active component is often called PDRN, short for polydeoxyribonucleotide. Rather than adding volume, polynucleotide treatments are intended to improve skin quality, hydration and resilience.

At Evolve Aesthetics in Manchester, polynucleotide therapy is part of our advanced skin treatment menu. It is a particular favourite for delicate areas such as the skin under the eyes, where thin, crepey or tired-looking skin can be difficult to improve with other options. Our doctors will assess whether it is appropriate for you.

Why choose it

What polynucleotide therapy is designed to do

Support for delicate skin

Because it focuses on skin quality rather than volume, it suits thin areas such as the undereye region.

Improved hydration

Polynucleotides bind water and can help skin look more supple and refreshed.

Skin repair and resilience

They are thought to support the skin's natural regeneration, which may help skin look healthier over time.

Subtle, natural look

Results focus on quality and texture, without changing facial structure.

How PDRN works

Polynucleotides are believed to work by stimulating fibroblasts, the cells that produce collagen and other structural proteins, and by supporting tissue repair processes. They also attract and hold water. PDRN has a history of medical use in tissue repair, and in aesthetics it has become popular for skin rejuvenation.

It is worth being open about the evidence. Clinical research on polynucleotides in aesthetic medicine is developing, and while many patients and clinicians report positive outcomes, results vary and it is not a guaranteed fix. Your doctor will explain what is known, what is less certain and what outcomes are realistic for your skin.

What happens during treatment

Following consultation, your skin is cleansed and numbing cream may be applied. The product is placed using fine needles at multiple small points just under the skin, or with microdroplet technique in delicate areas. The treatment is generally tolerable, with brief stinging as the product is injected.

Small raised bumps and mild redness are typical immediately afterwards and generally settle within a day or two. Bruising is possible, particularly in thin-skinned areas such as under the eyes. Polynucleotide therapy is usually delivered as a course, with sessions spaced a few weeks apart. Your doctor will recommend a schedule based on your skin and the area being treated.

Aftercare and building results

After treatment, we usually advise the following.

Results typically build over the course as skin quality improves. Maintenance treatments may be recommended afterwards, depending on your skin and goals. Good sun protection, hydration and a consistent skincare routine all support results.

  • Avoid touching or rubbing the area for several hours
  • Skip intense exercise, saunas and very hot showers for 24 hours
  • Use a gentle skincare routine and daily sunscreen
  • Avoid makeup for several hours, then use clean products
  • Contact us if you notice persistent swelling, pain or unusual redness

Safety, suitability and who should avoid it

Polynucleotides are generally well tolerated, but side effects can occur, including swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps and, rarely, allergic reactions. Because the source is salmon-derived, it may not be suitable if you have a fish allergy, and we will ask about this carefully. Treatment is also not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with active infection or inflammation in the area.

Some people choose not to have treatments derived from animal sources, which is a perfectly valid personal decision, and we are happy to discuss alternatives. Polynucleotides will not lift sagging skin or fill hollows, so if your concern is volume or laxity, we may suggest a different treatment.

FAQ

Polynucleotide (PDRN) Therapy FAQs

PDRN, or polydeoxyribonucleotide, is a purified DNA-derived ingredient used to support skin repair, hydration and quality.

The most commonly used polynucleotides are derived from highly purified salmon DNA. Please tell us if you have a fish allergy or any concerns about animal-derived products.

It is often considered for thin or crepey undereye skin, subject to your anatomy and assessment by your doctor.

It is usually a course of treatments spaced a few weeks apart. Your doctor will recommend a plan for your skin.

Small bumps, redness and bruising can occur and usually settle within a couple of days.

Skin boosters mainly hydrate, while polynucleotides are intended to support the skin's repair and regeneration. They can be combined in a plan.

Polynucleotide therapy starts from £420, and the final price depends on the area and number of sessions, confirmed at consultation.

It is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a fish allergy, have active infection or inflammation in the area or have certain medical conditions. We take a full history so we can advise safely.

Some people notice early improvement in hydration, but polynucleotides are usually delivered as a course and results build gradually. We set realistic expectations at consultation.
